School of Education Sciences (SES) of Nanning Normal University grew out of the Education Teaching and Research Section established in 1978 and was renamed as the Teaching Department of Education Sciences (simply referred to as Teaching Department) in 1994. It began to recruit students independently in 2000. Under the background of higher normal education reform and continuous expansion of the functions of normal education, the Department of Education was established in July 2001, which was renamed as School of Education Sciences in February 2009. In 2010, its discipline of education was accorded with the first-level discipline status, its program of pedagogy was taken as fostering doctor degree program funded by the Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region during the period of “12th Five-Year plan” and “13th Five-year Plan”. The result of the fourth round of national discipline evaluation released by the Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education on December 28, 2017 shows that the Discipline of Education of SES at NNNU ranks among the top 60%-70% of national disciplines. In February 2018, the discipline of Pedagogy of SES was in the list of the first-class fostering disciplines in Guangxi universities. Finally, NNNU’s doctoral supervisors in education discipline and Southwest University’s doctoral supervisors in education discipline have begun to cooperate to supervise doctoral students since 2017.
School of Education Sciences has 5 undergraduate programs, including Pedagogy, Preschool Education, Special Education, Applied Psychology and Public Service Management (normal education). It has 4 academic graduate master programs, including Principle of Pedagogy, Curriculum and Teaching Theory, Higher Pedagogy, Educational Economics and Management, and 4 professional master programs including Educational Management, Mental Health Education, Preschool Education and Applied Psychology.
Currently, it has 880 full-time undergraduates and 120 full-time graduates (including 5 overseas students) are on education in the school. The employment rate of its graduates is more than 90%.
Currently, SES has 74 faculty members, among whom 64 are full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, 7 are doctoral supervisors, 1 with the title of teaching master of NNNU, 12 with the rank of professor, 23 with the rank of associate professors, 28 with PhD degree and 4 are doctorate candidates. SES has 11 research institutes such as the Basic Education Research Center and 12 laboratories such as Psychological Comprehensive Laboratory.
Taking the responsibility of serving the basic education, SES is now strengthening the specialty of its Teacher Education, Mental Health Education and Special Education. Taking educational research as its focus, it is now creating a new situation of educational reform.
