The School of Journalism and Communication was the earliest established school (faculty) of journalism and communication among universities in Guangxi, and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication was established in 2005. In 2006, it was the second authorized master’s degree in journalism in Guangxi. In 2018, it was approved the first-level discipline degree authorized units of Journalism and Communication, and master’s degree authorized units in Journalism and Communication. In 2021, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy released the 2021 “ranking of the best disciplines in China”, and the Journalism and Communication discipline of our university ranked the 60th in China, and the top 50% in ranking.
Now it has 4 undergraduate majors: Journalism, Program for Broadcasting and TV, Advertising discipline and Broadcasting and Hosting Art Major. Among them, Journalism and Broadcasting and Hosting Art major have been awarded the construction unit of first-class undergraduate majors in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Communication Science discipline has been awarded a key fund project which is the Second Batch of Industry-University-Research innovation of Chinese Universities in 2020. It sets up 5 first-class undergraduate courses, 2 of which are at the national level and 3 at Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region level, including 5 types of first-class courses, which is unique among universities in Guangxi.
It is the first one to have three region-level research teams in Journalism Discipline in Guangxi. There have been 3 new general projects of National Social Science Fund of China and more than 10 general projects of Philosophy Social Science in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the past three years. It has more than 10 Industry-University-Research projects of the Ministry of Education of PRC, ranking among the best in the national Journalism Discipline. It has more than 10 provincial teaching reform projects. More than 60 academic papers have been published, among which more than 20 in core journal papers; and with 5 monographs and 3 textbooks came out. Teachers have won 4 Guangxi Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards, 4 Guangxi Teaching Achievement Awards, 1 National First Prize in the National Teacher Education and Teaching Informatization Competition for the Higher Education Group Micro-class Competition, and 1 Second Prize in the “Characteristic Demonstration Classroom” for Outstanding Teachers of Philosophy and Social Sciences among universities in Guangxi.
In the past three years, students have won nearly 40 national awards, including the prestigious National Classical Recitation Competition and the China International College Students’ “Internet plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
