History of NNNU

 Guangxi Teachers Education University, formerly known as Guangxi Advanced Training College for Secondary School Teachers, was founded in October 1953 and is located in Jiangjunqiao, Guilin. In December of the same year, it was renamed Guangxi Advanced Training College for Teachers.

In August 1954, it was moved to Wangcheng, Guilin along with Guangxi Normal College (now named as Guangxi Normal University).

In March 1955, it was moved from Guilin to Taoyuan Road, Nanning, which is near Xiaoma Village (now in the Guangxi Arts University).

In 1960, it was merged into Guangxi University for Nationalities, while the original site was handed over to Guangxi Arts University.

In 1961, the former name of Guangxi Advanced Training College for Teachers was restored.

In September 1963, Guangxi Advanced Training College for Teachers was separated from Guangxi University for Nationalities, together with acceptance of personnel and property of the closed Guangxi Normal Junior College, rebuilt on the original site of the school (now being the Mingxiu Campus of NNNU).

In 1967, it was renamed Guangxi Education College.

On December 28, 1978, Guangxi Teachers Education University was established on the basis of the Teacher Training Faculty of Guangxi Education College, and was renamed Nanning Normal College on February 1, 1979.

On May 22, 1985, Nanning Normal College was renamed Guangxi Teachers Education University.

On December 30, 2002, with the approval of the people’s government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the former Guangxi Nanning Normal University for Nationalities, founded in 1905 and with a century-old history of teacher education, was merged into Guangxi Teachers Education University.

In 2010, the university built a new campus on Wuhe Avenue, Xianhu Development Zone, Nanning City.

On November 30, 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the university was renamed Nanning Normal University.
