Chinese Government Scholarship Application Guide of Nanning Normal University

Nanning Normal University, located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, grew out of Guangxi Teacher Training College, which was founded in 1953. Ratified by China State Council in December 1978, it was upgraded as a Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region-governed general undergraduate normal college which practices full-time undergraduate programs. Ratified by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1998, it was approved as a Master’s Degree authorized unit. In 2013, it was approved to be Guangxi Project Construction Unit for the New Doctor Degree Conferring Unit. On November 30, 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Nanning Normal University (NNNU).

NNNU now has four campuses: Mingxiu, Changgang, Wuhe and Wuming Campus, covering an area of 3,383.1 mu (about 560 acres), with 22 schools and one jointly-run independent college. NNNU sets up 10 discipline categories:: Philosophy, Economy, Law, Pedagogy, Literature, History, Sciences, Engineering, Management and Art.

There are 70 undergraduate programs, 17 master’s programs of the first-level disciplines, 1 master’s program of the second-level discipline, and 13 professional master’s programs. NNNU now has more than 1,200 full-time teachers of which more than 1,000 are of or above Master’s Degree. The structure of faculty has been constantly optimized, with more than 600 teachers with senior professional and technical positions. There are 44 doctoral supervisors and 499 master supervisors. There are 22,204 full-time undergraduate students, 2,954 postgraduate students, 230 junior college students and 287 preparatory students.

NNNU adheres to open and cooperative school-running mode and has established partnerships with more than 70 colleges, universities and other educational institutions from over 20 countries and regions. A talent-development model by combining Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools and mutual credit-recognition has taken shape to gradually establish China-ASEAN talents training system based on cooperation, opening up and mutual exchanges. NNNU jointly organized the undergraduate education program of “Tourism Management” with Cardiff Metropolitan University, jointly established the undergraduate major-- Electronic Information Engineering with National Chi Nan University, and jointly built Thai Language and Culture Centers and China-Malaysia Overseas Chinese Literature Research Centers and so on with universities in Thailand, Malaysia and other countries. Many programs including “Chinese Government Scholarship”, “Guangxi Government Scholarship for ASEAN Students”, “Silk Road Scholarship”, “Guangxi Chinese Education Base”, encourage foreign students to pursue education in China, which has continuously led to an increased number of international students to NNNU.

. Teaching Language:

Courses for students who are covered by this scholarship at NNNU are instructed in Chinese. Applicants with HSK level 4 or above would receive preference under equal conditions.

. Enrollment Programs:

Applicants can choose any of the bachelor’s and master’s programs offered by Nanning Normal University (please refer to Appendix I for specific programs catalogue).

. Applicant Qualifications:

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health;

2. Graduation results of applicants applying for the bachelor’s programs and the master’s programs must be above intermediate level (applicants must graduate with   a GPA above 2.2).

3. Applicants applying for the master’s programs must be the bachelor’s degree holders with their age under 35;

4. Applicants need to submit HSK certificates (valid and within two years)with the score reaching level 4 (a total of no less than 180) or above. Applicants can apply for one year of Chinese language study if fail to meet above requirements. After the Remedial Chinese Language Studies is completed, applicants must take the HSK test, and those who have achieved the above-mentioned requirements in HSK can be transferred to relevant faculties for professional studies.

5. The scholarship is only aimed for freshmen. Students who have studied in China have no qualifications to apply unless have graduated for at least one year.

6. Students majoring in language and literature of their native language or English and other third-language could not be admitted.

7. Applicants should have not been awarded other scholarships.

V. Scholarship Coverage :( the following information is subject to the documents officially issued by China Scholarship Council)

1. Free charge of tuition, application fee and dorms on campus

2. Providing living stipend

4. Students shall be responsible for their expenses of transportation.

. Application Procedures:

Application Online: Applicants need to log into the China Scholarship Council Information System (linkage: https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register) and apply online. First click on the “student’s entrance of online application” icon and then fill in the application information. The Agency Number for Nanning Normal University is 10603 and the Program Category Type is B.  Prepare and submit materials as required in the “Application Materials” list. Click the SUBMIT to generate the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form, which should be downloaded and printed out.

.Application Materials (In Quadruplicate)

1. The completed Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form in Chinese or English;

2. Notarized highest degree education certificate and transcript. Applicants who are students should submit the certificate of enrollment issued by the school, or submit the on-the-job certificate issued by the employment unit if they are employed. A notarized Chinese or English translation should be attached to the text not written in Chinese or English. If the applicant fails to obtain the diploma and degree certificates when applies, relevant certificates issued by the previous school should be submitted and a guarantee should be signed with NNNU to prevent the situation that if the diploma and degree certificates are still not provided two months after being admitted, the scholarship qualification will be automatically cancelled;

3. Study or research plan (no less than 800 words), written in Chinese or English;

4. Applicants for Master’s programs must submit two recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English;

5. Please take the original and photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (please refer to Appendix II for details) when registering. This form, printed by the Chinese Quarantine authority, is only for those whose periods of studies in China lasts up to six months and must be written in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed. Incomplete records or those without a sealed photograph of the applicants, or the signature of the attending physician and the official stamp of the hospital are invalid. As the examination results are valid for six months, the applicant is requested to determine the time for physical examination.

6. Photocopy of valid ordinary passport (personal information page, with at least one year validity);

7. Photocopy of HSK 4 or above certificate (applicants without it should apply for one year of Chinese language study at NNNU);

8. Apply on our school website. In addition to filling in the application form on the CSC official website, the applicant also needs to register and fill in the application form on the international student online service platform of Nanning Normal University. Website address:

Note:

1. Before April 30 of the year of application, the applicant must mail all the above paper application materials (in quadruplicate) to Office No.206, International Affairs Division, Guopei Building, Nanning Normal University, No.175, Mingxiu East Road, Nanning, China. The application materials will not be returned to applicants whether they will be admitted or not. Therefore, applicants should keep all the originals.

2. The incomplete application materials and the wrong agency number for Nanning Normal University will not be accepted. Please be sure to provide correct telephone number, email address and mailing address (zip code and city name are included).

3. In addition to the above materials, applicants should provide other necessary application materials as required by NNNU.

4. We will not reply to email and telephone inquiries about the application status and admission process. Please pay attention to the latest news on our website. Thank you for your cooperation.

. Approval and Notification

1. Nanning Normal University will review all the application materials of the applicant and is authorized to make necessary adjustments on the applied programs and duration of study. The qualified applications will be forwarded to China Scholarship Council (CSC), which makes the final decision. The application will be regarded as invalid and will not be processed if the applicant is not qualified or the application materials are invalid, or against the recruitment regulations.

2. If the education level of students who apply for examination exemption from abroad to study for Master’s programs does not meet the requirements of Chinese ordinary colleges and universities, NNNU should decide the type of the students to be admitted or admit conditionally. If the applicant needs to catch up on Chinese or take a Chinese preparatory course before professional study, he or she should pass the university entrance examination or relevant course examination before officially starting professional study.

3. The applicant accepted by Nanning Normal University will be officially awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship with endorsement from CSC and submitted to Ministry of Education of China (MOEC) for the record.

4. In principle, students are not allowed to change programs, or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice with their signatures after registration.

5. The result of application will be announced around late July to mid-August of that year (the specific time to be determined). Applicants will be informed via our emails. Please be sure to check the e-mails. After the confirmation of the Admission List, the Admission Notice and the Visa Application Form (JW 201 Form) will be mailed to the awardees of scholarship. Therefore, please make sure to provide the correct postal and contact information.

. Others

1. The scholarship application will be deprived for those who cannot come to China for study within the duration of admission;

2. An annual scholarship review will be taken part in by the scholarship recipients as required.
